Fire at Rolta Complex in Mumbai – Dear Dream-City… Have “Fire in Dreams”not “Dreams in Fire”

Dear dream-city … Have “fire in dreams” not “dreams in fire”

Rahul Jadhav, Director – Aarush Fire Systems Pvt. Ltd.

A major fire broke out in the residential building in Navi Mumbai’s Palm Beach Road and south Mumbai’s Malabar Hill in the first week of February. This was followed by a massive blaze in a commercial building in Mumbai’s Andheri MIDC area on February 13, 2020. A massive fire broke out at a high-rise in Seawoods-Darave in Navi Mumbai on Saturday, February 8, 2020. At least seven fire engines were dispatched after the Navi Mumbai fire brigade received the call for help at 6.30 am. A cylinder blast in the duplex flat spread over the top two floors, triggering the fire.

Unfortunately, two fire officers and five firemen were injured while trying to control a blaze that engulfed the upper floor at a 21-storey residential building. The fire officials suffered burn injuries on hands and face. The residents had evacuated the building immediately after the fire started. There were fire incidents in reported during the same period at a shelter in Saki Naka area and at Milan Industrial Estate in Kala Chowky locality in Mumbai. Prior to this, just before four days on February 5, 2020,  fire-fighters rescued 18 people after a fire broke out on the fifth floor of a 15-storey building in south Mumbai’s Malabar Hill.

These incidents were followed by yet another incident in the ensuing week. A massive level-III fire broke out around afternoon at Rolta Company building, located inside Rolta Technology Park on 22nd Street in Andheri MIDC, Marol.

A team from Mumbai Fire Brigade arrived on the spot minutes after being alerted about the incident. Due to the severity of the blaze, the fire call was escalated to Level-III at around 12:30 pm and more personnel and equipment were deployed on-site. The fire brigade operation brought the blaze under control, which continued till late evening.

According to the fire brigade officers, the fire is confined to the server room on the second floor of the ground plus three-storey commercial structure. Dense smoke has engulfed the structure and the staircase. Though the exact reason for this inferno was not known; being broken from server room on the building’s second floor, it was ascertained that it might be because of some electrical mishap.

These two fire incidents in the dream city Mumbai puts a question mark on fire safety procedures followed not only in commercial establishment but in residential as well. In both cases, thick smoke covered the building and its staircases, posing difficulties in the fire-fighting operations.

To avoid such incidences and the resultant damage there is acute need for installing a comprehensive range of quality fire protection solutions including fire doors, fire detection alarms, sprinkler systems, hose reels, extinguishers, exit lighting and more. Aarush Fire Systems Pvt. Ltd is a one stop solution for all.
