Dharma Production – Bahot Kuch Jalata Hai…

Dear Film Fraternity, set the box-office on fire… Not your infrastructure!!!!

Rahul Jadhav, Director – Aarush Fire Systems Pvt. Ltd.

One of the famous producer-directors of Bollywood, Mr. Karan Johar has the track record of setting the box-office on fire. However, this time the go-down of Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions in Mumbai recently (on May 1st, 2019) was caught the fire!!!

Dharma Productions had reportedly leased the chemical go-down from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and it was primarily used to store important equipment used for shooting.

The storehouse was used to store props used in past movies and props which were to be used in future projects on which the production house had been working currently.

The fire started early around 2:30 am in the morning and soon around 12 fire engines were called to extinguish the fire before it could cause any further devastation. Upon their arrival, the fire brigade pressed six water tankers and deployed around eight fire engines into service. Apparently, it was Level (III) medium blaze, which entailed tremendous hardships for the fire fighters to douse the fire.

Fortunately, no casualty or any physical injury to any person has been reported but like that of R.K. Studio; Dharma Production also lost many of its heritage (and hence invaluable) belongings, along with other precious paraphernalia of film production. Reportedly, the materials which got destroyed due to the fire were supposed to be used in the upcoming films of Dharma Production like Student Of The Year 2, Drive, Good News, Brahmastra and Karan Johar’s magnum opus Takht.

Though the causes/sources of fire were not yet established, but as usual, the lack of proper and appropriate fire fighting systems and equipments was on the major reason behind this mishap. Chief fire officer PS Rahangdale reportedly said that, they have disconnected their electric and water supply and action will be taken if any kind of lapses or deviations is found. However (and surprisingly…), there has been no official statement from Mr. Karan Johar following such a fateful incident.

It is observed that, film production entities/houses simply don’t care enough about the damaging consequences of an unanticipated fire and don’t invest judiciously into it. This unfortunate accident shows that the large-scale film productions should focus on installing world-class, effective and efficient fire protection systems.

Aarush Fire Systems Pvt. Ltd, by virtue of its experience and expertise into this domain, provides a perfectly integrated system and solutions, for fire protection and safety. This essentially contains fire extinguishers, fire hose reels, fire hydrant systems and automatic sprinkler systems etc. We also provide guidance and training on Standard Operating Procedure for designing and operating the fire-walls. So, it’s a small request to the entire film fraternity that, please set the entertain us, put the box-office on fire but not your film production infrastructure!!!
